Water Splashing Festival is the biggest holiday, and one of the biggest events, of the year in our area. Many locals and tourists come to be a part of the celebration. Many local friends have told us that every hotel room in the city is booked and after experiencing the festival we believe it. There is a huge parade (many different minority people live in this area and during the parade they wear their unique customary clothes), dragon boat racing, food to eat, and of course the water splashing. Kim and I thoroughly enjoyed the parade but the boys could take it or leave it. The boys and Mark took to the streets with tens of thousands of others to participate in the water splashing. Buckets, bowls, cups, water guns and truck beds lined to hold water were all running rampant in the streets from morning till night fall. It is an absolutely amazing site! The only regret is that there are no pictures of us on water splashing day. It just wasn't worth having our camera get ruined to bring you firsthand pictures. You'll just have to trust us when we say it was great. Following water splashing in our city we headed out to our teacher's home village where we were hosted for three days. In outlying areas the festival activities were just kicking off on the day we were traveling so we got to experience water splashing and the other festivities all over again. I confess that it was a great surprise to have our bus attacked by water splashers on the way to the village. At one stop they were able to pry open the windows and dump buckets and buckets of water on us, the Chinese travelers and all of our stuff. No one gets upset though, it's just all done in good fun. We really enjoyed our first Water Splashing Festival and were blessed by our time in the village.
